I’ve been so busy at work, that the weekends are a welcome retreat. Believe it or not, i got to the Redwood City office right before 6am!
On Friday night, we just relaxed because Saturday was the day were were going to go everywhere!
Apple did me right
My Apple Airport Extreme N was giving me issues. So I took it to the Apple store a few weeks back, but after two hours, they sent me home because they wanted me to do a firmware fix.
Well, I did the firmware fix at the store, came back home, and still had the same problem.
So when I got a survey from Apple, I told them that my experience at the Burlingame store sucked and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
Tom, The Burlingame manager called me on last Wednesday and said that he’ll swap it out for me and scheduled me for the Genius Bar for 10am on Saturday.
I got there right at 9:50am and a line has already started to form! WTF I thought, what is up with all these Apple geeks? Then I realized, “Oh, I’m one of them!”
At first, he asked if I had the receipt, which I do, online. So he looked it up to find that my base station was an older model, which they didn’t carry in stock. The new model has gig-ethernet. So I asked him, couldn’t I just return this and pay for the new one? So he gave me a new one right off the shelf for no extra cost! He took my old one, and I was on my merry way. I was out by 10:10am to get home at 10:30am to head out to the BBQ!
Shirley and Ernie’s BBQ
When we arrived, Ernie was starting up the grill. So we were kicking it and relaxing. I dressed up thinking it was going to be a cool day, but it was really warm in Fremont this past Saturday.
Ernie, one of the best cooks I know, whipped up some amazing food from bratworst and grilled veggies to my favorite (the bacon wrapped jalapeno and cheese). As delicious as it was, it sure gave me some serious gas. Damn my lactose intolerance!
Ayden, Meet Eden
Ayden was looking forward to meeting Eden because Mommy and Daddy has so much in common with them. It was fun to hang out with the Abars to catch up. Both Alan and I were snapping away with our cameras…
When I got home, I made the comment:
“What if Eden and Ayden ever get married? Eden is the only baby girl I know who would have just as many photos as Ayden because Alan is a photographer too.”
Bev laughed, and said,
“Yeah, and their slideshow would be like two hours long!”
Alan and Olivia said that I should watch Big Bang Theory:
I don’t know why they thought I would think it was funny. I mean, they were like: “You should really watch it”
“Why, what is it about?”
“It is about a bunch of nerds that live together”
And Olivia reiterated, “Yeah, Gary, you should really check it out!”
Ohhh, okay, it was pretty funny! I think I might Tivo it. The sad thing, is that I thought their “nerd” jokes were really funny. Maybe I am a nerd?
Ayden, meet Bev’s extended family
After hanging out for a few hours, we went to Bev’s cousin’s house in Hayward. Her daughter was having a 7th birthday, and Ayden got a lot of attention from all the “Lolas” in the room. It was funny, they formed a line to carry him!
Sunday Photoshoot with 40D
I have to say that Live view totally kicks ass. I’m very happy with the way the shots turned out. I figured out how to use the Live View feature and it made a big difference in getting absolute focus on my shots.
I’m not too sure if I like AI autofocus mode though because after the shoot, I was testing the focus during rehearsal and about half of them were out of focus. I was testing the face recognition AI instead of using the center point focus.
Overall, I’m very happy with the 40D so far. It is much quieter, Ayden isn’t really bothered by it while he is sleeping. And the 3″ LCD is a big improvement over the 1.8″ LCD of the 20D
